Emma Marini
(Landscape Intern)

Emma Marini is a second-year Master of Landscape Architecture student at the University of Toronto, joining the Brackish team for a 2026 summer internship. Emma completed her undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Science and Chemistry at McMaster University, focusing her research on wastewater contamination within freshwater ecosystems in Southern Ontario. Recognizing the scale of environmental degradation, she felt the urgency to address issues identified in her research, which led her to the MLA program. Emma incorporates scientific principles within her design work, focusing on how infrastructure can be functional while limiting its impact on the environment. Being new to the field, she approaches design with curiosity, exploring the variety of scales at which landscape systems operate, as well as landscape’s ability to connect people and ecologies. In 2025, she completed a Horticultural Internship at the Toronto Botanical Garden, which both strengthened her knowledge of plants and the maintenance practices that sustain landscape projects well into the future.

Emma has always been drawn to the ocean and is excited by the opportunity to explore the unique coastal landscapes of Eastern Canada this summer.
